iPhone : Steve Analyst Early Harvest can create problems down the line, I understand this. I just don't think the WTO are as big an obstacle to the US as they could be to the UK. Somebody has to go up against the US at the WTO. That's a very limited list of prospective nations.

iPhone : Steve Analyst Steve, I wish politics was as straight forward, transparent and predictable as you suggest. If you look at Robert Lighhizer's approach, his sectoral strategy put forward by Bolton, it focuses on the regulatory - NTB environment which doesn't require Congress to pass them.

iPhone : The Brexit Caliphate is here, all of the toxic Dog whistle slogans from 2016 will be winging their way towards official policy now the Brexit Taliban are in charge.
Dominic Cummings was CEO of the Vote Leave Campaign and is now Johnson's Special Advisor.…

iPhone : Steve Analyst I think their primary defence would be that they are trying to maintain the current US trade balance with the UK. A RAND Brexit study modelled a 0.5% - 1% GDP loss for the US in the event of a No Deal Brexit, as ever , political Horsetrading might play a part.

iPhone : Steve Analyst Ignore my last, I see you mean Congress doesn't want to invite any WTO backlash. That would depend on the nature and detail of these trade waivers, complainants would have to prove they would suffer a financial loss or unfair competition. I can see room for Republican spin.

iPhone : Steve Analyst Well yes, they can take out punitive unilateral measures, but it's worth remembering the US has a lot of clout. With the global economy slowing, I wonder how many would take that risk? Also, WTO complaints can be kicked into the long grass. I'm not happy about US policy btw.
