iPhone : Boris Johnson’s failure to nominate 🇬🇧 commissioner is a useful fight (for him). Unlike deal/no-deal decision, no big stakes. Easy way to shore up his Brexit credentials.

Twitter Web App : An interview with Ukraine’s wheelchair-bound former central banker on having her house burned down, attacks on her, and her relationship with controversial oligarch Kolomoisky. With Andrew Roth theguardian.com/world/2019/nov…

iPhone : Gordon Sondland, US hotelier turned plenipotentiary to the EU, has emerged as a key figure in the impeachment probe in Washington. Reupping our FT profile: Trump’s diplomatic confidant in a fix ft.com/content/227734… via @financialtimes

TweetDeck : The Guardian Also Boris Johnson July promised to “unshackle” officials from EU meetings.

Reality Sept/October: UK ministers attended a little more than half EU meetings, although am told officials attended under 50%/ This is seen as fulfilling the policy.

TweetDeck : Nigel Farage tried to negotiate a Leave alliance with the Tories, they said no, and now he’s giving them most of what they want anyway?

This might explain why he wants to leave the EU without a negotiation.

TweetDeck : Deadline day for Boris Johnson on UK EU commissioner.

The UK has not yet "to the best of my knowledge" sent a name or names to the European commission for the UK's EU commissioner, says spokesman.
"We are expecting an answer today."

Twitter Web App : How could Brussels name a policy thats so closely linked with its potential for political legitimacy among a new generation of #climate activists a freaking taxonomy? h/t Mehreen

TweetDeck : The UK in a Changing Europe Bigger point. Johnson video full of this: “fantastic new deal… a Super Canada Plus arrangement….Lets Get Brexit done”.

Reality is submerged behind these kind of misleading and meaningless slogans that suggest the next phase will be painless and over soon. Far from it.

TweetDeck : Claim: UK did “new withdrawal agreement in less than three months" and can get "fantastic" trade deal by end 2020.

Reality: EU says timetable difficult but doable, but pending ratification in national and regional European parliaments.

TweetDeck : Claim: UK will negotiate "big free trade deal” with EU with no political alignment.

Reality: UK gov has no plans for close alignment, but will have to adhere to core EU standards on workers’ rights, environment, consumer protection to ensure zero tariffs and zero quotas.

TweetDeck : Quick fact check on Boris Johnsons latest Twitter video.

Claim: UK will take back control of our money, our borders, our laws as soon as we come out of the EU.

Reality: UK remains in 11-month transition, paying into EU budget, following EU law, inc free movement ppl.

iPhone : How does EU respond to Boris Johnson’s misrepresentation of the Brexit deal? It will only reinforce the (already strong view) that every important detail of an agreement must be nailed down in law. theguardian.com/politics/2019/…
