Sprout Social : After Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin, Ernest Chain (pictured) - born #OTD - alongside Howard Florey, was instrumental in the isolation of the antibiotic. This led to a pharmaceutical that could be produced in large quantities. All three received the 1945 #NobelPrize.

Sprout Social : Niels Bohr was awarded the 1922 Physics Prize for his model of the structure of the atom. 53 years later his son Aage Bohr, born #onthisday, was awarded the 1975 Physics Prize for work on the structure of the atomic nucleus.

Landsteiners discovery continues to save countless lives every day.

Sprout Social : On what would have been his 90th birthday, we remember laureate John Nash - “a mathematical genius” who was awarded the Prize in Economic Sciences for his work on game theory. Nash died in a car accident in 2015.
