Android : It’s World Health Day, and we owe a profound debt of gratitude to all our medical professionals. They’re still giving their all for us every day, at great risk to themselves, and we can’t thank them enough for their bravery and their service.

Android : “We will not see diseases like the corona virus come here”

Android : 1/ Why are booksellers, writers & publishers seen as such a threat to undemocratic governance?

1.1/ Under digital authoritarianism, China has established successful ways of censoring. For printed materials, the cost is much higher.

Android : Forget about who issued early coronavirus warnings to the laziest president in creation. The result was always going to be the same: a pandemic that sheds a black light on this nation’s faults. And black people are paying the price, as usual. I am furious. reuters.com/article/us-hea…

Android : Hate to be the guy who has to state the obvious, but hmmm Phoenix is basically CCTV with slightly better production, it totally takes orders from Beijing and presents itself as HK media for 出口轉内銷 twitter.com/Yamiche/status…

Android : I love how the Chinese ambassador to the United States claims" this is a time for solidarity, collaboration and mutual support,” while the Chinese foreign ministry expels American journalists and urges foreign diplomats to stay out of China. reuters.com/article/us-hea…

Android : Interesting. Taiwan’s government bans video conferencing app Zoom, joining Elon Musk and New York’s Department of Education. Taipei cites security flaws and use of Chinese servers, looks to video conferencing services from Google and Microsoft. twitter.com/samsonellis/st…

Android : I'm getting emails every day from non-Asians in China who say they can no longer stand "the hatred." An American who's lived in China > 10 yrs says he's "tired" of being called a murderer just about every time he goes out. First it was the Tibetans, then the Muslims, now. . . . twitter.com/paulmozur/stat…

Android : The battle to keep Americans from understanding what went on January to April is going to be one of the biggest propaganda and freedom of information fights in modern US history. axios.com/exclusive-nava… So much of it is public that only the manufacture of mass confusion can work.

Android : A powerful and plainly persuasive dissent from Justice Ginsberg: “Either [voters] will have to brave the polls, endangering their own and others’ safety. Or they will lose their right to vote, through no fault of their own.”

Android : Wisconsin can now toss out absentee ballots that were held up by a heavy demand after the pandemic hit. So often the defense for voter suppression is protecting the “process.” As Mark Joseph Stern argues, “the legitimacy of the election itself” is now in question. slate.trib.al/dY1vESG

Android : Supreme Court: We're going to delay oral arguments for the first time since the Spanish flu because this pandemic is an extraordinary time & also we don't know how to use Zoom.

Also Supreme Court: There's no reason people shouldn't still have to show up to the polls in-person.

Android : Purcell - decided just 6 years ago is treated as precedent so deeply embedded and unyielding that it cannot yield to the context of an election that is simply like no other that members of the Court have seen in their lifetimes.

Android : Wow. NYT reports Trump himself has a financial stake in the French company that makes the brand-name version of hydroxychloroquine.

Android : TO: Nancy Pelosi

I suggest your proposal for coronavirus phase 4 be ready when Congress returns April 20, and provide:

1. $1,000 per week for 6 months.

2. Health care for 6 months.

3. Small business payroll protection for 6 months.

4. No corporate bailouts.

Android : It's pretty simple: We need a government that’s on the side of the people and can execute in times of crisis.

I talked to Jon Favreau about what that kind of government could look like (because it's sure not what we have right now). Listen in!
